The Fenocchio estate produces some of our favourite Barolo. Whether you?re a Piedmont afficiando or a complete new comer to Nebbiolo these are must-try wines. Claudio aims to craft wines of elegance and sense of place by focusing upon traditional production techniques that maximise the expression of the vineyards in which the grapes are grown. His Villero Cru is one of his top vineyards and consistently produces Barolo of structure, perfume and elegance.
The 2009 vintage was a warm vintage in Piedmont creating wines of ripe fruit and polished tannins. Fenocchio?s 2009 Barolos are drinking well now, particularly when paired with some red meat or game. A perfumed scent of roses, cherry and violets waft from the glass complimented by a more savoury, spicy background. The palate is structured as one expects from Barolo with framing tannins and acidity. Overall it has a beautifully supple mouthfeel with weighty but velvety...
tannins and a profound concentration of sweet cherry, tar, leather with a sweet spicy finish. Superb.
