Scores

Decanter: (87% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc, 2% Petit Verdot) Fine black red, quite magical bouquet, pure quality of cashmere silkiness on the palate with a touch of fragrance from Cabernet Franc, blending softness of attack with pure density. A wine of stunning fragrance and purity, the most perfect expression imaginable of the greatest of Margaux vineyards. Drink 2016-40. 20 Additional Tasting

Tasting Notes

The perfect combination of power and elegance, this is gracious and seamless with sumptuous silky textures and beautiful lifted fragrances to accompany the succulent fruit. Pontallier compares to 2005 for power, 1990 for the quality of the tannins and 1982 for elegance. For all those that love Margaux, this is an essential purchase. 19.5 points 2019-2030+ 87CS :9M :2PV :2CF 19.5

ProducerChâteau Margaux

Château Margaux is one of the most historic estates in Bordeaux and is considered a national treasure. It has changed hands many times over the centuries, passing through a who's who of French nobility as well as the hands of powerful merchants such as the Ginestet family. The consistently outstanding quality of Margaux during the years of the Mentzelopoulos-Pontallier partnership is no coincidence though and demonstrates that the greatest terroirs need to be understood and worked on by people of rare talent, passion and commitment to achieve their full potential.
