Scores

Black fruit and sweet spices with a generous dose of woodiness too. The hardest tannins of their Barolos – really impenetrable. Condensed and multi-layered – a very demanding wine at this stage. Needs plenty of maturation. Score: 18.5/20 Richard Hemming (JancisRobinson.com)

Tasting Notes

The Bussia is characteristically the most densely structured of the Crus, and for this reason is also the vineyard that produces the Barolo Riserva. The soil of the Bussia vineyard is compact clay and limestone which contributes to the firm structure. As with all of Claudio’s wines, this structure is matched by an elegance of flavour and delicate perfume. While the tannins will benefit from a couple of years age, the concentration of the fruit and spice promises extremely enjoyable drinking over the next twenty years.

ProducerGiacomo Fenocchio

When Claudio Fenocchio succeeded his father, Giacomo, at the helm of the family business in 1989, the debate between modernists and traditionalists in Barolo was at its height. He chose a third path, often described as radical traditionalism. His wines are renowned for being impressively approachable in their youth, while continuing to improve with age. Claudio represents the fifth generation of the Fenocchio family, crafting elegant, authentic Barolos that capture the spirit of his vineyards. Yet he does not rest on his laurels, continually pushing the boundaries of quality and innovation while honouring his family legacy.
