Scores

Monforte d?Alba. Bursting with fragrance ? evocative and emotive, almost! Confidently high tannin, and light body. The scent is the most remarkable aspect though ? really stellar. Score: 17.5/20 Richard Hemming (JancisRobinson.com)

Tasting Notes

This is benchmark village Barolo and sets the standard for the rest of Fenocchio?s range. Beautiful lifted aromas of cherry, strawberry and roses swirl up from the glass complimented by an earthy background with hints of sweet spice. The palate is finely poised with great balance between weight and structure. Perfumed cherry and strawberry flavours dominate backed by an earthy minerality and a pleasantly grippy structure. The concentration of flavour here is quite something, all finished off by a lovely bitter cherry finish. As with all of Fenocchio?s wines this is approachable and beguiling now but has the ability to age for the next 5-7 years.

ProducerGiacomo Fenocchio

When Claudio Fenocchio succeeded his father Giacomo at the helm of the family business in 1989, the debate between modernist and traditionalists in Barolo was at its most acute. He decided to opt for a third approach, something we can call radical traditionalism. His wines were celebrated for being impressively approachable in youth while getting even better with age. Claudio represents the 5th generation of the Fenocchio family crafting elegant, true Barolos that capture the soul of his vineyards. Far from resting on his laurels though, he continues to push boundaries of quality and innovation while respecting his family legacy.
