Tasting Notes

This has a darker fruit character than Conteisa. Very deep and layered and in need of time to unfurl. The texture and harmony of the wine are most striking at this stage. Gossamer but very present tannins which reinforce and support the dense core of fruit. This hangs together perfectly with a great sense of progression from the concentrated fruit through to the long, fresh exciting finish. Withtime in the glass the remarkable nuance of this wine reveals itself and we can?t wait to see this evolve. Fabulous.

Reviews & Scores

Dark red fruit, savory herbs, menthol, tobacco and smoke are some of the many notes that take shape in the 2010 Sperss. A wine of unusual translucency and nuance, in 2010 Sperss is supremely refined and less bombastic than is often the case. The 2010 shuts down quickly in the glass and its best days lie many, many years ahead. Today, though, I am quite struck by what appears to be a subtle yet noticeable change in direction at Gaja.

TASTING NOTES

Compact, taut, powerful, the most reticent of the three. With a little time in the glass the perfume starts to hint at what this wine is capable of: red fruit, rose, rich spice and a sense of stones. This is deeply mineral with a real sense of purpose and line. There is such delicacy to the fruit and an outstanding...

TASTING NOTES

The 2011 really highlights the nuance, subtlety and elegance that this site is capable of whilst retaining the depth, verve and structure. This is a powerfully built Barbaresco but one with striking finesse. There is so much complexity but it is seamless and weightlessly elegant. One of the best Sorì Tildìns we have tasted. Supreme.

TASTING NOTES

Floral, extravagantly perfumed and sensual. This is a textured, sumptuously fruity Costa Russi with a backbone of acidity and minerality which frames and elevates the layered and complex fragrance and silky texture. Extremely evocative, engaging and enticing this really highlights the delicacy of Barbaresco yet still has the grunt, power and sophistication of a Gaja wine. Brilliant.

TASTING NOTES

Gaja’s Costa Russi is usually the most aromatic and elegant of the three single vineyard wines with a finer structure. The 2014 retains its personality with an expansive bouquet of wild berries mingled with rose petals and an attractive balsamic note. Succulent and rich on the palate, it has a core of sweet red fruits with darker mulberry and blackberry...
