Nothing to do with "thunder" and everything to do with being on the way to the village of "Tonnerre". The vineyards lie on west facing slopes catching the evening sun and ripening gently. The expansive nose is characterised by minerals and fine citrus acididty with a hint of fennel. The kimmeridgian clay in the site imparts fantastic complexity with graphite, silex, gunsmoke, oystershells and a chalky, flinty character. Absolutely precise, linear and direct this needs some time. As Benoît puts it, it is not distracted by "being pretty". This is classic and will be fabulous in 5 or 6 years. Absolutely irresistible. Drink 2018-2025.
