PINOT GRIS, Drinking Now 2025

Scores

Deep straw-yellow. Fresh mango, iodine and ripe apple pie aromas on the slightly exotic nose. Then firm-edged and penetrating in the mouth, showing lovely richness but also a light touch to the exotic fruit and grapefruit flavors, thanks to bright lemony acidity. A nicely weightless Pinot Gris with a long, tight back end. There is some residual sweetness but you’d never guess its residual sugar content (28 g/l) due to its bright balancing acidity. This wine’s high acidity is explained in part by the fact that Bursin takes no chances at harvest time: she is always one of the first to harvest Pinot Gris (a thin-skinned variety) on the Zinnkoepflé. “I hate it when it starts to smell and taste of mushrooms,” she told me.

Tasting Notes

Succulent and singing with spiced pear and apple on the nose. The palate has exciting concentration, feels sweet and rich with tropical fruit, bright acid, grippy and long.
