Scores

Tua Rita has always done a fabulous job with their Syrah, but the 2012 takes things to another level. It is the first vintage in which winemaker Luca D'Attoma used a small percentage of whole clusters, a common practice throughout the world, but one that is rarely seen in Tuscany. The 2012 Syrah is intense, with layers of expressive floral and red-toned notes that captivate the senses. Fine and silky on the palate, the 2012 boasts superb personality and pure grace. I can't wait to see how the wine develops over the coming years. Score: 93-96 Points Antonio Galloni

Tasting Notes

The production of Tua Rita?s Syrah is minute; just 2500 bottles were made in 2012. Unsurprisingly, this is an exceptional wine that displays a wonderful, silky texture and a multifaceted character. An effortless charm distinguishes this Syrah, revealing beautifully pure notes of violet, red cherry, kirsch and soft, warming vanilla spice. The fruit is intensely compelling, with a joyful, viscerally thrilling youthfulness, bringing an energy and freshness to the finish which seems to typify the vintage.

ProducerTua Rita

Founded in 1984, Tua Rita was instrumental in establishing the ‘cult’ status of the earliest Super Tuscans. Nestled in the ‘metalliferous hills’ of the Maremma in the coastal region of Tuscany, the original plot of 2 hectares has now grown to 30 and Tua Rita have carved out a reputation for being some of the best producers of Cabernet and Merlot in Tuscany. Today, second generation winemaker Stefano Frascolla continues to push the boundaries of Italian wine, experimenting with new varieties and techniques, and recent releases of these wines are the best they have ever been.
