Scores

The lovely 2012 Roussanne Venus, always one of the last to be harvested, this blend of 97% Roussanne and 3% Viognier spent ten months in neutral oak. Most of the Roussane comes from the Dry Stack Vineyard in Dry Creek (also well-known for its Sauvignon Blanc fruit). The 2012 offers sumptuous aromas of lychee, honeysuckle, rose petals, caramelized citrus and exotic tropical fruits (mango and tangerine). Medium to full-bodied with stunning purity, this dry white delivers both power and elegance, but I would opt for drinking it in its first 2-3 years of life. Score: 93 Points Robert Parker

Tasting Notes

The last of the family?s grapes to be harvested, usually in mid-October, this site in Bennet Valley is cool and foggy and pushes the boundaries of ripening, giving fruit with delicate flavours and low alcohol. The blend is 97% Roussanne, with just a touch of Viognier for complexity, given a little skin contact and 10 months in neutral oak with slight lees stirring to avoid any excess richness. Tasted in the office this put me in mind of a fine St Joseph Blanc with its restrained orchard fruit and floral nose, peachy freshness and beautifully measured viscous texture.
