Tasting Notes

Whilst Redigaffi is the undisputed signature wine of Tua Rita, it is perhaps even more so in 2013. This ?perfect? vintage encouraged Stefano Frascolla and Luca D'Attoma to select 2 barrels of wine from the oldest plot of Redigaffi Merlot. This special ?Vecchie Vigne? selection has been bottled in Magnum to be released next year. In the meantime, the 2013 Redigaffi bottling is sublime. Warm, full and spicy, there is a profound depth to this wine which is wild, intense, opulent and exotic. It conveys incredible notes of morello cherry, plum, brushwood, hedgerow fruit and kirsch. The palate is both sweet and smoky; a concentration and freshness that is so beguiling with an almost salty, rocky minerality running through. The finish is dense, complex and serious, leading to a marked and lingering balsam note. All in all, this is a sumptuous, ample wine with a glorious future ahead.

ProducerTua Rita

Founded in 1984, Tua Rita was instrumental in establishing the ‘cult’ status of the earliest Super Tuscans. Nestled in the ‘metalliferous hills’ of the Maremma in the coastal region of Tuscany, the original plot of 2 hectares has now grown to 30 and Tua Rita have carved out a reputation for being some of the best producers of Cabernet and Merlot in Tuscany. Today, second generation winemaker Stefano Frascolla continues to push the boundaries of Italian wine, experimenting with new varieties and techniques, and recent releases of these wines are the best they have ever been.
