Tasting Notes

The eponymous 2014 Syrah—the top of their range and the variety that made them famous—fermented in open vats with some full clusters and a soft extraction followed by malolactic in barrel where the wine matured for 18 to 20 months. This wine is always kept in bottle for two or three years before it's sold. It's very different from the 2015, which I tasted next to it. It has more notes of olives and spices and has an herbal side along with notes of the smoky Chilean spice mix called merken. It has grainy tannins and is a little wilder and perhaps more rustic than the more polished 2015. It's lively and has very good freshness, with all the components for a positive development in bottle.
