Tasting Notes

Nestled in the tiny hamlet of Sorano, in the Serralunga d`Alba subzone, La Contrada di Sorano is a newly established winery, brainchild of a young couple, Paolo and Cristina. This young and passionate duo have decided to make this tiny plot of land their new home. The inaugural vintage 2015 is a testament to their commitment to the natural environment surrounding their property. Applying a minimal intervention approach to the winemaking, this eclectic duo manages to craft a unique Barolo, which graces the palate with tons of wild herbs, bramble fruit and velvety tannins. The wine lingers on the palate, revealing notes of black tea and kirsch on the finish. This is as natural as Barolo can get, with minimal sulphur added and well judged use of old oak. The inaugural release has been produced in a ridiculously tiny quantity, just 733 bottles have left the property in search of a new home.

ProducerLa Contrada di Sorano di Paolo Baudana

La Contrada di Sorano is the adventure of Paolo Baudana and his wife Cristina. Cultivating little more than 2.5 ha in Serralunga d’Alba, one of the most prized terroirs in Piedmont, the young couple started to make wine in 2013 and released their first Barolo in 2015. Their estate might be small but they truly do a remarkable job of delivering wines which are brimming with lively tension, concentration and elegance. A producer to watch!
