Tasting Notes

"A crazy new-wave wine from Bolgheri with lots of whole-bunch fermentation character. This is so intense and juicy, with minerality and purity of fruit, as well as flower-stem and flint character. Medium-bodied, crisp and vivid. A blend of sangiovese and syrah, fermented in concrete vats and aged in used barrels and some amphora. 3,800 bottles made. Drink now."
96 Points, James Suckling

"A blend of Syrah and Sangiovese, it opens with inviting wild strawberry and herb scents. In the mouth it's precise and vertical, with fresh and creamy red and black berries supported by fine, sandy tannins and good acidity. It's still a bit closed but with there's plenty to look forward to here. Michele Satta's output is characterised by experimentation and innovation, and his wines have helped to drive the denomination forward even since its inception. Now his son, Giacomo leads the charge at the estate, and Marianova – first released with the 2015 vintage – is the first Bolgheri Superiore DOC to omit Bordeaux varieties completely."
93 Points, James Button, Decanter

ProducerMichele Satta

Michele Satta is one of the founders of Bolgheri DOC, alongside Tenuta San Guido, Ornellaia, and the Antinori family. Among these illustrious neighbours, the Satta family has remained a boutique, terroir-driven producer. Their wines are quintessentially Tuscan in style, championing Mediterranean varieties on the coast, including Sangiovese, Syrah, and Viognier, alongside Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Today, Michele’s son Giacomo heads the estate, one of the leading figures of a new generation of Italian winemakers, producing wines with a “fierce spirit of independence,” as described by Monica Larner of the Wine Advocate.
