"A deep bright dark purple, grand cru colour! A gorgeous rich deep fruit, then vanilla from the oak, and a clear white pepper from the stems. This clearly needs more elevage which it will receive. The fruit is much more prominent than the oak at the finish. Ripe fruit but dark raspberry rather than mulberry. Oxygen will tighten this up,...

"Dark purple. More backward, dense fruit, less explosive than the Bonnes Mares, but at least as deep. Just short of a chocolate note but super ripe raspberry nonetheless. Does it quite have the finesse? Maybe. The Clos de Bèze certainly has the energy and the backbone which allows for a fresher finish. Ripe through and through." 94-96, Jasper Morris
