You certainly would never describe this wine as rustic. It?s very fresh and elegant, with pure red fruit, cloves and spices. Immensely concentrated with prominent tannins but already showing well now. Despite being made from Shiraz, this has something of a top quality Bordeaux about it. Henry Jeffreys

The grapes for this 1860 Vines Shiraz are picked from the pre-phylloxera ungrafted vines planted on the Estate in that same year. Produced in only tiny quantities, this is an extremely limited production wine from some of the oldest Shiraz vines in the world. Brooding and powerful on the nose, this leads onto a palate with immense concentration of fruit and layers upon layers of flavour. Seemlessly smooth with a very supple mouthfeel, the intense blackfruits are interspersed with notes of spice and cedar. Incredibly long and drawn out on the palate, it is structured and rich with firm tannins and a very long, lingering finish. Youthful now, however this will certainly benefit from extended cellaring.
