Winemaker Oscar Alegre and his wife, Eva Valgañon, are leading a revolution in Spain, championing a return to Rioja’s ancient traditions and making wine as it was before Phylloxera and French influence in the late 19th century. Alegre Valgañon produces beautifully sculpted Rioja from the cool north-west of the region, using exceptional sites with old vines—often field blends—and minimal oak influence. All wines are crafted outside the Crianza-Reserva-Gran Reserva ageing system, aiming to showcase local styles and the character of each individual site. This winery captures something truly special, and we are delighted to bring their wines to the UK market.
