Our PortfolioQuerciabella

The name Querciabella is perfectly fitting for this Chianti estate, surrounded by a sheltering forest of magnificent trees. Twenty Twenty-Four marked the 50th vintage for the estate and the beginning of a new era with Mita Castiglioni, eldest daughter of Pepito, taking the reins. Under her leadership, Querciabella continues to be one of Italy's most innovative wineries, pioneering vegan and biodynamic practices. With the expertise of talented South African winemaker Manfred Ing, Querciabella consistently produces some of the purest expressions of Chianti Classico as well as Super-Tuscans with their acclaimed wines Camartina, Palafreno and one of Italy's most celebrated white wines, Batàr, alongside a range of exciting wines from the Maremma region.

Bottle shot of 2022 Mongrana
Tasting Notes

"The 2022 Mongrana is a fun, juicy wine to drink now and over the next handful of years. Bright red cherry fruit, spice, mint, tobacco and leather add layers of nuance. Floral and savory accents linger. There's a bit of dryness on the finish, but that's a small critique for a wine that offers so much value." Antonio Galloni, Vinous

Bottle shot of 2021 Chianti Classico
Tasting Notes

"The 2021 Chianti Classico is fabulous. Bright and punchy, with terrific resonance, this wine shows just how compelling the vintage is. Readers will find a Chianti Classico of dynamic energy and volume. Dark red cherry, purplish fruit, lavender, rose petal, spice and a gentle kiss of French oak build into the sumptuous, vibrant finish. Superb. The 2021 was aged in...

Bottle shot of 2019 Turpino
Tasting Notes

"The 2019 Turpino, Querciabella's top wine from Maremma, is understated and yet quite expressive. Black cherry, plum, mocha, spice and licorice are nicely lifted by a good dose of Cabernet Franc in the blend. This aromatic, layered red holds quite a bit of appeal. I would prefer to drink it over the next handful of years." 93, Antonio Galloni, Vinous

Bottle shot of 2018 Camartina
Tasting Notes

" The organic 2018 Camartina is 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Sangiovese. A consistent performer vintage after vintage, this Tuscan blend shows an exotic quality, with barbecue spice or steak sauce that frame a core of supple dark fruit. But the aromas don't stop there. It unfolds to show balsam herb, blue flower and grilled rosemary. The wine is packaged...

Bottle shot of 2022 Batàr
Tasting Notes

"The 2022 Batàr is airy, fresh and nuanced. Hints of tangerine oil, mint, lemon peel, almond and dried flowers are all nicely lifted in this aromatic, refreshing white. The style continues to move in the direction of energy and vibrancy. These days, there's minimal lees-stirring and just a hint of new oak, a response to changing climate conditions and stylistic...

Bottle shot of 2008 Camartina
Tasting Notes

A little less intense and concentrated that its younger brother, the 2008 showed a delicate finesse with a layered, savoury quality and a gentle balance of herbs and dark fruits. There is a warm quality that comes through from the sophisticated oak which lingers on the finish. Overall this is a lovely wine with a very attractive and elegant pedigree....

Bottle shot of 2013 Camartina
Tasting Notes

The 2013 Camartina is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Sangiovese, all from the Ruffoli sub-zone of Greve. It’s much less international in style than it used to be, or perhaps the Cabernet over the years has become domestic. Dense, creamy and beautifully textured in the glass, but in the restrained style that characterizes Querciabella's wines today, the 2013 is...

Bottle shot of 2003 Camartina
Tasting Notes

Even though this is 17 years old, the colour is still an amazingly deep garnet even if the rim is now transparent. Oo, that is rather lovely! Lots of evolution and subtlety, with a hint of quite attractive dustiness, on the nose. It does taste very much more like mature Cabernet (even Bordeaux) than anything informed by Sangiovese. Dry (but...

Bottle shot of 2015 Palafreno
Tasting Notes

The 2015 Palafreno is one of the more understated Tuscan Merlots readers will come across. This site, in the Ruffoli district of Greve, at 400 meters above sea level, yields a distinctly savory, nuanced Merlot that emphasizes energy and nuance over power, all of which make it a truly special and distinctive wine.94 points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous

Bottle shot of 1999 Camartina
Tasting Notes

This beautifully evolved wine retains its incredible core of pure dark cherry and blackcurrant fruit, spicy dried herbs and tea leaves, framed by tightly knit tannins and a svelte, gentle texture. There is incredible concentration here but a gentle, almost ethereal quality lingers in the mouth and creates a heady, aromatic perfume. Elegant yet powerful, this is a stunning wine...

Bottle shot of 2020 Palafreno
Tasting Notes

"The 2020 Palafreno (100% Merlot) is packed with dark fruit, mocha, new leather, spice and espresso. It emerges from vineyards at elevation in the Ruffoli district. Merlot seems to be more transparent with regards to an expression of place, whereas, interestingly, Cabernet is much stronger in varietal expression in the Camartina blend. The deep, saline finish is seriously impressive. The...
