CHÂTEAU GRAND VILLAGE

Le Grand Village is the original Bordeaux home of the Guinaudeau family, better known as the producers of Château Lafleur in Pomerol. The same team and equal level of detailed attention are dedicated to winemaking in this château in Fronsac on the Right Bank. This results in a red (Merlot/Cabernet Franc) and a white (Sauvignon Blanc/Sémillon) wine which far outstrip their nominal Bordeaux Supérieur status, creating some of the most exciting releases in the appellation. If one wants to glimpse into the Guinaudeau’s savoir-faire, then Grand Village is an unmissable addition to any cellar.

TASTING NOTES

You could be forgiven for thinking this is a 2009 vintage GV, such is the richness, density and openness of the nose. There is an incredibly attractive array of blackberries, blackcurrant, figs and toffee all complemented by a lovely mineral finish. The mouth watering palate is ripe and juicy, exuding luscious dark fruit and excellent acidity. A mix of stony...

85% Merlot/15% Cabernet Franc. First impressions are focused on fresh fruit, a lovely nose of red and black berries that still retain a certain crunchiness. On the palate, there is remarkable precision as well as a creamy texture, a charming combination. The ripe Merlot marries beautifully with the more alert Cabernet Franc and it’s the quality of the tannins that...
