Stretching for 4,300km north to south but only 175km on average east to west, Chile can boast some of the most dramatic viticultural landscapes in the world. Usually nestled in valleys that run east to west, vineyards in the country can count on a mild, Mediterranean-like climate. The country is also, famously, phylloxera free, allowing for many vineyards to be planted ungrafted – a real rarity in the wine world! The next generation of winemakers seems to have found a new voice and are gaining confidence in experimenting with the grape and terroirs of their country. Chile now show wines of real interest and complexity and it is going from strength to strength!
