PORTUGAL

What sets aside Portugal from all other wine producing regions is a vast array of exciting indigenous grape varieties that are planted nowhere else in the world. The country is still fighting to gain an international reputation for quality wine production and not just Port wine, and it is through the determination and talent of an increasing number of skilled winemakers that this is finally starting to happen. Originally best loved in the UK for selling us vast quantities of Mateus Rose, the country has since come an incredibly long way in building their reputation as serious wine producers. The diverse climates from the cooler North to the baking Algarve South result in a whole host of varied wine styles that merit further investigation.

TASTING NOTES

A very structured wine. Intense red fruit aromas - strawberries and fresh raspberries with hints of violets. On the palate this is fresh, mineral and very fruit forward. Combined with fresh acidity, all elements combine to produce a wine of great elegance.

This is a powerhouse, simply put. With the extra year in the bottle, though, it is also displaying its beautiful fruit, crisp, silky texture and lingering finish. The oak is a bit prominent, but it is already being pulled in. This shows fine potential now, well on its way to absorbing the tannins and oak. It seems like a different...

TASTING NOTES

Named after the gentle traditional method of extraction used to produce it, the Lagar method relies on gentle crushing of the grapes with people’s feet. The pips are not broken and the skins are gently pressed ensuring that not too much tannin is extracted. That being said this is powerful, dense and concentrated; a wine of real class. Intense flavours...
