Château Calon Segur from the Saint-Estèphe appellation in Bordeaux is one of the fourteen classified third growths in the famous Bordeaux classification of 1855. It is one of the original three vineyards in Saint-Estèphe and is a historic estate once housing the famous Château Montrose in 1825. It is also the northernmost classified growth in the Médoc. The estate has been owned by the Capbern Gasqueton family since 1894. The wines of Château Calon Segur have been cited of falling between Cos d’Estournel and Montrose in style, being long-lived without aggression.
Very dark ruby colour. Dense wild black fruit aromas. Thick, rich and textured on the palate with lovely freshness and succulent well integrated tannins. Very long lasting flavours on the finish. Drink 2010-2025. 91 points.
