The team of François Pinault and Frederic Engérer has produced a succession of wonderful wines at Château Latour since Pinault purchased the famous Pauillac first growth in 1994. Now they have embarked on a new project, tackling the very different challenges of Burgundy, having purchased the former Engel estate and renaming it in dedication to Pinault's mother. An east to south facing vineyard with deep calcerous soils, this wine has a refined mineral character which is typical of this vineyard. The 2016 has an intense lime and grapefruit flavour leading to a long and persistent finish. It could do with a little bit more ageing.

The Bourgogne Blanc, which had completed its malo by springtime, is already in bottle and offers good fruit weight and mid-palate density but plenty of freshness too. The nose is pure and floral and the wine bounds along energetically, with a crisp, well-defined finish suggesting versatility, equally at home on its own as with simple foods. Drink from 2014.more
