I love the aromas of violets with liquorice and subtle brown sugar. This is a full-bodied merlot with fabulous tannins and a wonderful finish. It shows reserve and balance, with striking complex flavours of orange peel, light berries and chocolate. Pure magic. Goes on for minutes. One of the best Redigaffis ever. Better in 2016. Score: 99 Points James Suckling

Tasting Notes

Redigaffi has done it again! The 2011 is an outstanding 100% Merlot from the sun-kissed Tuscan coastal region of Maramma. The wine opens up with a incredibly inviting nose displaying exquisite concentrated dark fruit with a fresh floral lift, hints of liquorice and dry herbs. The excitement continues on the palate, which is packed with copious black fruits with beautifully dense and refined tannins. The refreshing acidity that lifts the Merlot at the end all combines to show why this wine is regarded as one of Italy's very best wines. Drink 2019 - 2035.

ProducerTua Rita

Founded in 1984, Tua Rita was instrumental in establishing the ‘cult’ status of the earliest Super Tuscans. Nestled in the ‘metalliferous hills’ of the Maremma in the coastal region of Tuscany, the original plot of 2 hectares has now grown to 30 and Tua Rita have carved out a reputation for being some of the best producers of Cabernet and Merlot in Tuscany. Today, second generation winemaker Stefano Frascolla continues to push the boundaries of Italian wine, experimenting with new varieties and techniques, and recent releases of these wines are the best they have ever been.
