Domaine de Montille, Burgundy, France
13.00%, Drinking 2021-2038The 2017 Pommard Les Rugiens 1er Cru contains two-thirds whole clusters and matures in one-third new oak. It has an intense bouquet, the fruit slightly darker than the Les Pezerolles, touches of réglisse and star anis emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, smooth in texture with good depth, though I discern more terroir expression on the Les Pezerolles at this moment.
91-93 Points, Neal Martin
Lightish red but darker hue than Les Pézerolles. Tangy but very ripe red cherry. Finely scented on the nose and the palate, unexpected for Pommard. Rounded but dense in texture. Great finesse and mineral length. Refined, fruited but all well-structured for a long life. Lovely transparency.
17/20 Points, Julia Harding, JancisRobinson.com

One of the great estates in Burgundy, Domaine de Montille produces incredibly elegant and understated wines. Established by Hubert de Montille, who inherited a few Volnay vines in 1951, the estate now comprises 17 ha. The wines had a reputation for requiring a long time to reach maturity but under Étienne de Montille, with the help of Chef de Cave Brian Sieve, the aromatic complexity of the wines has been brought to the fore.
