"And lastly, the 2019 Châteauneuf Du Pape La Bessade is a more Grenache-dominated wine offering medium to full-bodied aromas and flavors of ripe cherries, strawberries, Provençal garrigue, and peppery spice. Fermented with 20% stems, it has silky, polished tannins, wonderful balance, and a great finish. Drink this fabulous 2019 over the coming 10-15 years."

Tasting Notes

"Certified organic. From a very specific small (one-hectare) sandy plot of 25- to 30-year-old Grenache. ‘A micro terroir that produces wine that doesn’t like to have anything else blended in with it.’ Just 4,000 bottles made. Pre-dates Christian Agut, the wine was made by Dom La Millière too. The 2020 will be released soon, bottled end April.
Fine, poised, very fruity wine that reminds me more of Clos des Papes than Rayas. With great finesse. Very distinctive, pure and long. Finishes dry and lightly chewy."

ProducerChateau Le Prieure

The name, Le Prieuré des Papes, makes reference to the Priory of the Popes building located at the foot of the castle village of Châteauneuf-du-Pape and forming part of the estate. Located in the northern part of Châteauneuf-du-Pape in the Cabrières district, the estate vineyards are grown on sandy soil over a limestone subsoil. The vineyards are north facing, which brings a lot of freshness to the wines.  They produce three red Châteauneuf-du-Pape, two of them being single vineyards, one white Châteuneuf-du-Pape and one red Côtes du Rhône.
