The name, Le Prieuré des Papes, makes reference to the Priory of the Popes building located at the foot of the castle village of Châteauneuf-du-Pape and forming part of the estate. Located in the northern part of Châteauneuf-du-Pape in the Cabrières district, the estate vineyards are grown on sandy soil over a limestone subsoil. The vineyards are north facing, which brings a lot of freshness to the wines.  They produce three red Châteauneuf-du-Pape, two of them being single vineyards, one white Châteuneuf-du-Pape and one red Côtes du Rhône.

The Rhone Valley stretches almost 500 miles from North to South and is home to some of France's oldest vine plantings that were first cultivated in Roman Times. The region is split into Northern and Southern Rhone, both of which are very contrasting regions. From the North, the appellations of Hermitage and Cote Rotie produce some of the most famous and rare wines from Syrah, harvested from the very steep slopes carved into the hillsides. It is also here that the world's best Viognier is produced from the Condrieu appellation.
