Tasting Notes

"This is an amazingly floral and earthy wine with pure, rose petal and cherry blossom hints on the nose, bounded by superb rigidity on its flanks. There is a sensationally voluminous palate here, and the experience is amazingly long. Somehow, it maintains control throughout, travelling directly and steadily across the palate, never wavering or changing pace. Relentless, beautiful and resonant, while also concentrated and luxurious, the tannins are dusty and teasing, and, finally, the palate is decorated with mouth-watering earthy notes, signalling a unique sense of place. This is an epic wine."
19+/20 Points, Matthew Jukes

"The 2021 Brunello di Montalcino impresses straight away for its exuberance, tell-tale of the vintage: its alluring perfume and ethereal profile hide the underlying concentration and depth of this wine. A dense core of steeped violets and rose petals is wrapped around a layer of juicy, ripe wild berries and spice. The acid backbone and fine-grained, velvety tannins lifting the sip, achieving great overall harmony. Classic iron fist in a velvet glove. Terrific. Tasted September 2025."

ProducerIl Marroneto

Over the past few years, Il Marroneto has risen to become one of the most sought-after producers in the world of fine wine. Situated just below the walls of Montalcino, the vineyard occupies the hilltop, overlooking the valley below. Il Marroneto’s old vines, altitude, and exposure to the valley winds produce wines that are ethereal, complex, delightful, and thought-provoking all at once. Winemaker Alessandro Mori has been described by Monica Larner of the Wine Advocate as “the Sangiovese whisperer” for his extraordinary ability to express the grape’s innate character with purity and energy. These magical wines have captured the imagination of wine lovers worldwide, their emotional impact almost beyond words.
