Our PortfolioWeingut Bernhard Ott

Weingut Bernhard Ott is one of Austria’s most innovative producers of Grüner Veltliner. The Ott estate, founded in 1889 and still family-run, farms 50 hectares of certified biodynamic vineyards. Bernhard Ott’s approach is firmly rooted in low-intervention winemaking: whole-cluster maceration, 100% stem inclusion, and spontaneous fermentations in a mix of Stockinger fuders. Ott was also a founding member of respekt-BIODYN in 2007, alongside Johannes Hirsch and Fred Loimer—a group now synonymous with the advancement of biodynamic viticulture in Austria. The winery is based in Feuersbrunn, in the south-western Wagram, with vineyard holdings just north of the village as well as a small but significant parcel in the Stein vineyard across the Kamptal border.

Bottle shot of 2024 Am Berg Gruner Veltliner
Tasting Notes

"The 2024 Grüner Veltliner Am Berg is picked across the villages of Engabrunn, Feuersbrunn and Grossriedenthal from contract growers and estate-grown fruit. Grapes are crushed slightly and have some skin contact before pressing, then ferment spontaneously. Crushed yarrow and yeast on the nose make this an unmistakable Grüner. The palate, however, defies the warm year and presents an almost Riesling-like...

Bottle shot of 2024 Fass 4 Gruner Veltliner
Tasting Notes

A superb introduction to the wines of Bernhard Ott, named after a special barrel (fass) that was hand selected every year by a customer for its quality. Grapes harvested around Spiegel and Rosenberg in lower Wagram produce an intensely aromatic wine revealing aromas of citrus, nectarine and basil. The overall experience is long, saline and moreish. "The 2024 Grüner Veltliner...

Bottle shot of 2024 Der Ott Gruner Veltliner
Tasting Notes

"Still unformed nose. Intensely rich palate entry and amazingly persistent. Big enough to serve with a wide range of savoury foods. Great build. Opens out towards the end not unlike a relatively rich white burgundy. But arguably with more energy on the end than many a white burgundy." 17+ Points, Jancis Robinson

Bottle shot of 2022 Ried Spiegel Feuersbrunn Gruner Veltliner
Tasting Notes

"The 2022 Grüner Veltliner Spiegel comes from a cooler, very windy site on calcareous Danubian gravels and loess, made from more than 50-year-old vines at up to 340 meters altitude. It was aged for 20 months on fine lees in a 7,500-liter barrel. The wine opens with an exquisite nose that combines white miso, sun-warmed split pine, lichen and peppery...

Bottle shot of 2022 Stein Engabrunn Gruner Veltliner
Tasting Notes

"The 2022 Grüner Veltliner Stein comes from the lowest site in the Bernhard Ott portfolio, reaching between 220 and 280 meters, but the soils are of gneiss. The nose is shy and merely shimmers with a touch of pepper and the slender, sharp foliage of palm fronds. On the palate, much saltier yeast emerges on a slender body, with wet...
