Scores

Complex aromas of rose, mineral, blackberry and licorice follow through to a full body, with fine, racy tannins and a medium-long finish. Racy and stylish. 90-93 points Wine Spectator

Tasting Notes

Intense, deep and mineral, incredibly complex and distinguished. This has effortless style, lots of cassis and damson fruit with a rich fruit compote note. This is dense, flowing, gorgeous wine, brilliantly long on the finish, with an amazing sense of detail. Concentrated and polished, this is a compelling effort and a clear candidate for wine of the vintage. 55CF:45M

ProducerChâteau Ausone

Château Ausone is perched on the hillside in the southern outskirts of the village of Saint Emilion, named after the Roman poet Ausonius. With 7.3 hectares of vines and its vineyards on a steep, south-east facing slope they flourish with the protection from cold north winds and westerly rain. The vines at the top of the slope thrive on limestone (the 'St Emilion plateau') whilst those further down benefit from a clay / loam topsoil (the 'Côtes'). Nowadays this has continued with the ubiquitous Michel Rolland as consultant,  now producing ultra-rich, exotically fruity wines that benefit from ageing.
