Tasting Notes

The Griotte is normally never one to show off from barrel but it surprised us this year. It opened up quickly to reveal magnificent, rich complex aromas of raspberry seed, ripe blackberry, plum, blueberry and a subtle savoury tone. The palate is incredibly complex with crushed raspberries and strawberries but also an interesting note of cassis, all beautifully integrated and supported by subtle, velvety tannins. It has a wonderfully fluid, energetic freshness that lingered on a very long finish. Drink from 2017.

ProducerDomaine Fourrier

In 1995 Jean-Marie Fourrier took over the winemaking from his father Jean-Claude, who had been making the wines since 1967, at first in partnership with his uncle, from whom many of the vines were inherited. Jean-Marie has a broader perspective than many of his fellow winemakers, as he spent time making Pinot Noir in Oregon, as well as training in France. Today, Domaine Fourrier is achieving critical acclaim but Jean-Marie is still young and ambitious to achieve even more. His star may be firmly in the ascendant but his feet are firmly rooted in the vineyards of Gevrey.  See More
