The 2014 Chardonnay Bien Bien, from 40 year-old vines in the famed Bien Nacido vineyard, is wonderfully layered and nuanced in classic Bien Nacido style. Lemon confit, apricot, mint, almonds and chamomile give the Bien Bien its distinctive oily, viscous personality. My sense is that 11 months in barrel is not enough for this wine to be fully formed. As good as the Bien Bien is, in my view, it could be even better.

The blend consists of 95% Tempranillo from 40-year-old vines in Las Cuevas, El Palo and Las Monjas in Rodezno, complemented with 5% Graciano from the Montecillo estate in Fuenmayor.
