Tenuta San Guido, Tuscany, Italy
CABERNET SAUVIGNON, 13.00%, Drinking 2020-2028
Tenuta San Guido, Tuscany, Italy
CABERNET SAUVIGNON, 13.00%, Drinking 2020-2028An impressive release that speaks volume of the pedigree of Tenuta San Guido’s wines. Guidalberto is a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot. A voluptuous nose charged with blackcurrant, black cherries, damson notes is rained in by mineral, almost balsamic hints of black olive, mint, tomato leaf and fresh black pepper. The exuberant nose of youth shouldn’t distract from the assertive and confident backbone that is clearly evident when the wine had time to open up in the glass. With every vintage Guidalberto is becoming more and more on its own, exhibiting all the purity and elegance typical of Sassicaia with a touch of vibrant irreverence.

Quietly, elegantly, and almost unintentionally, the Incisa della Rocchetta family released the wine that would revolutionise the Italian wine scene, creating an entirely new category: the Super-Tuscan. Tenuta San Guido is now a legendary estate, first planted in the 1940s by Marchese Mario Incisa della Rocchetta, who recognised the similarity between Bolgheri’s terroir and that of the Graves. When Sassicaia was finally released commercially in 1968, it took the world of fine wine by storm. Cementing its iconic status, it was granted its own appellation - Bolgheri Sassicaia DOC - in 1994.
