"A blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot, the Fattoria Le Pupille 2023 Saffredi represents a classic expression from a fresh vintage that ultimately performed far better than expected despite mid-season mildew pressure. The estate continues to refine its use of wood to emphasize brightness and fruit purity, a shift that is especially evident here. The wine shows notes of dark cherry, ripe blackberry, spice and hints of creamy chocolate. While the 2022 vintage emphasized harder tannins, this vintage is defined by generosity and luscious fruit. The Cabernet Sauvignon in particular appears crunchy, youthful and fresh, giving the wine energy and forward momentum."

"The ‘rebirth’ of Saffredi in 2022 continues with this 2023; a wetter vintage which has elevated the aromatics. Herbal and ripe dark fruit scents evoke the surrounding landscape. Lifted and vibrant, it's a balanced mouthful of crunchy dark cherry, blackberry and raspberry, subtle spices, and round, silky tannins. There's a distinct floral imprint – pot pourri, violets and Mediterranean herbs – along with a lick of salinity, making for a deep sip full of dynamism and juxtaposition. The future bodes well for this wine."

Elisabetta Geppetti, the founder of Fattoria Le Pupille, is a woman of extraordinary energy and vision. She was only 20 years old when she first took the reins of her family’s estate in Southern Tuscany in the 1980s. The winery is synonymous with Morellino di Scansano, and Elisabetta has been instrumental in putting this appellation on the map for wine lovers, producing excellent value Sangiovese and achieving global recognition with the region’s first Super Tuscan, Saffredi. Her children, Clara and Ettore, now run the winery, and this second generation has added two remarkable, innovative wines to the portfolio: Le Pupille, an amphora-aged Syrah, and Piemme, a unique Petit Manseng.
