Marsanne (1)Press

2003 Tahbilk 1927 Marsanne is "Keeper of the Week"

“Historic Tahbilk, founded in 1860 on the banks of the Goulburn river, is Victoria’s oldest family-owned winery, situated almost on the state’s northern border with New South Wales. The Rhône Valley’s varieties thrive here in the heat and the region’s white marsanne grape is the estate’s mostly widely planted variety. As the name suggests, the low-yielding marsanne that goes into this blend is more than 80 years old and, as such, is uber rich and concentrated. I adored its extraordinary, smoky, crystallised fruit and Indian temple incense-redolent, just 11% alcohol-laced, truly elegant palate. Drink this rich, spicy white now, with a mild chicken curry, or give it a few more years in the cellar, when it will acquire extra layers of smoke and spice. Who said that Aussie whites don’t age?“

Seresin Sun & Moon fetured as Tim Atkin's Wine of the Week

"Sun & Moon is the top Pinot from Seresin (made in this instance from the Raupo Creek vineyard) with a price tag to match. It is consistently among the best New Zealand reds and that's the case here with this outstanding 2010, which is maturing with grace and elegance. Concentrated, savoury, yet also refreshing this combines structure with succulence, sustained by acidity and not afraid of tannin. A wine that will age for another ten years."

Gaia and Rey Chardonnay is one of Ian D'Agatas "iconic" Italian Whites

“Wine insiders know Angelo Gaja’s first great white wine was the 1984 Gaia & Rey (in fact one of Italy’s greatest Chardonnays ever). He finally duplicated and perhaps surpassed that wine only with the 1994 vintage; and personally, I’m not sure Gaja has ever made two better white wines than this pair. Named after Angelo’s grandmother, Clotilde Rey, by all accounts an enlightened woman, this wine proves (along with a few vintages of Tasca’s Chardonnay and lageder’s löwengang), that there are Italian Chardonnays worth sharing.”

Matetic Corallilo Syrah is one to "buy right now"

"Start 2015 bravely by breaking out of your red wine rut and trying something new like this Chilean Syrah. Syrah has quickly become one of the most exciting wine grapes in this country, and this one is a perfect example of why it’s so on-the-money right now. Bursting with blackcurrant fruit it’s also a bit savoury thanks to those thyme and rosemary flavours, it’s a brilliantly versatile red to have in stock this winter and proves my claim in Wine & Food that the Syrah grape works with all kinds of hearty wintry meat dishes."
