Domaine Faiveley image

PRODUCER

DOMAINE FAIVELEY

Nestled unassumingly on a quiet street in beautiful Nuits St Georges, Faiveley, headed by the suave and welcoming Erwan, is quite an operation. One of the truly great, historic domaines of Burgundy, with stunning cellars and many glorious holdings from Gevrey to Pommard, via some brilliant Grands Crus, Erwan and his new team have everything that a Burgundian could desire. Traditionally, the Faiveley style was uncompromising but while still unquestionably making some of the longest-lived wines in the Côte, there is today far more finesse and precision in evidence, pointing to a more careful and up-to-date approach.

TASTING NOTES

Dark, opulent brambly fruit hints at seriousness on the nose. With some patience and gentle coercing from the glass, perfumed qualities of violets and purple fruits start to reveal themselves. The palate displays an impressive scale and structure. The aromatic depth is more baritone than tenor here, with a meaty, spicy and leathery character at the fore. The textures are...

TASTING NOTES

There is plenty of volume here; a rich, unctuous style that drives forward with cream, butter, pastry and soft yellow fruits. The decadent finish lingers impressively here with enough minerality and acidity to hold balance. This is a hedonistic yet well-made Meursault. Drink from 2019.

TASTING NOTES

Expressive dark and spicy notes of coffee and nutmeg intermingle with a dark fruit profile of forest berries and purple plums. The palate displays brighter, crunchier fruit with wild, freshly picked strawberries. An autumnal characteristic gives a sense of forest floor with a sumptuous hint of truffle on the mid-palate. The ripe fruit melds together with a soft, creamy texture,...

TASTING NOTES

From one of the finest parcels in Meursault, just beneath the Clos des Perrières, this shows the minerality of Perrières with the weight and attraction of Charmes. The 0.2 hectare plot at Faiveley is a gem in their line-up of whites. In 2015, this is rounded and shows off some impressive scale. Notes of citrus, waxy yellow fruits, acacia and...

Charming nose of violets and sweet morello cherries. A touch of sous bois and wild strawberries on the slightly more serious palate offers a clue of things to come. Nice fresh mineral backbone and delicate spice compliments the firm yet sweet tannins on the long finish. There is a lot more to come from this wine. Drink from 2020.
