PRODUCER

DOMAINE PATRICK JAVILLIER

The Javillier family have long ties to Burgundy but as courtiers (brokers between growers and producers) rather than winemakers. In fact, following training as an electrical engineer it was as a courtier that Patrick started his working life, making wine as an aside from 1974 to 1990. It was in 1990 that he was able to focus his efforts on his vines that he has managed to build up to 10 hectares, by far the majority in Meursault.

TASTING NOTES

A powerful, tightly wound wine that benefits from extended ageing. Again, a blend of two sites, totalling just 0.62 hectares of 30 year old vines, combined to elevate beyond the sum of its parts. Les Casse-Têtes is from the heart of the village. It means ‘heads of stone’ evocative of the rocky soils the vines have to contend with, bringing...

TASTING NOTES

At the balanced, fresh and elegant yet “very Meursault”. It is made up of two plots that total just 0.6 hectares with vines averaging 35 years. The names of both plots, Les Clous and Les Crotots, are combined to create Clousots. The former is at the top of an easterly facing hilltop while the latter, heavily frost affected only made 1/5th...

TASTING NOTES

The blend consists of 95% Tempranillo from 40-year-old vines in Las Cuevas, El Palo and Las Monjas in Rodezno, complemented with 5% Graciano from the Montecillo estate in Fuenmayor. The Graciano gives the wine an aromatic intensity and acidity, to carry the structure and elegance of the Tempranillo. The grapes are vinified separately in four-and-a-half-year-old American oak for three years, and...

Being Frizzante in style, this Prosecco has a lighter, finer mousse which makes it the perfect wine for an aperitive. In the glass you'll find delicious aromas of white stone fruit and golden apple with lively acidity to refresh your palate. A perfect glass of fizz to enjoy on its own or alongside some some canapés. Think fresh figs and...

His scientific grounding still informs his approach to his winemaking, always thoughtful and with theories of how to improve. In order to achieve the maximum results he vinifies each plot, not just vineyard, separately before extended ageing on fine lees in barrel and then tank. He feels this approach is vital to allow for the long ageing that his fantastic wines deserve. While Cuvee des Forgets can be drunk on arrival, the other two wines will be best left to mature for a further 3-5+ years before opening them. Patrick is a firm believer in blending plots, to equal more than the sum of their parts as with Les Clousots and Tête de Murger. He will match the personalities of each plot to achieve the best balance in the final blend.
