JEAN GRIVOT

With a Domaine that was established at the end of the 18th century, Etienne Grivot has often felt the weight of history when he joined his father Jean in 1982. 1993 marked a turning point and since then the trajectory of Domaine Grivot has been nothing but upwards. Today, a more mellowed and confident Etienne is one of the most respected figures in the region, producing wines of purity, freshness and precision year-in, year-out.

"Red Rock Terrace displays a beautiful core of blackcurrant, crème de cassis and juicy red plums. Hiding behind the gorgeous sweet fruit, fragrant notes of cordial, cocoa and liquorice emerge with time in the glass. Laser-beam precision is supported by the finest, grippiest tannins imaginable. Those tannins carry the beautifully concentrated fruit to a long, long finish. Effortless and perfectly...

"Brooding yet sensuous, Gravelly Meadow reveals earthy, savoury, meaty notes the nose, along with blackcurrants, blueberries and mulberries. There are subtle hints of herbs, tobacco and cedarwood. Once again, the tannic structure is impeccable and perfectly integrated. This says more about the superb quality of the fruit than it does about the 100% new oak. Gravelly Meadow is Diamond Creek’s...

"Volcanic Hill shows intense notes of cassis, blackcurrant, blueberries and black cherries, followed by violets, cocoa and cordial. This is full bodied and opulent, yet the tannic structure is beautifully integrated and nothing is overblown – the balance is impeccable. It also manages to be seriously refreshing. Cedar, sweet spice, tobacco, graphite and the faintest hint of truffle all emerge...

TASTING NOTES

Alluring scents on the nose, very focused on the fruits at present with a gorgeous pure summer pudding fruit and coulis character. On the palate, the wine has a soft, creamy side but also a sense of drive, still with the fruit in the ascendant. Hard to resist! Drink from 2013.

TASTING NOTES

A fascinating wine which engages and demands your attention, this begins with gamey, wild fruit notes but progresses in a surprisingly flighty manner across the palate, despite the structured presence of tannins that immediately point to the wine¿s origins. There is an energy and vigour here rarely seen in this vineyard which gives it tremendous appeal. However, there is never...

TASTING NOTES

A very shy nose but a really piercing, lively palate - intensely mineral and structured. There is a real iron fist here but the underlying bramble and morello cherry fruit is all there. Power and intensity gives a haunting quality to the wine on the finish. Potentially very fine Vougeot in what is often a variable Grand Cru. Drink from...
