Tasting Notes

"Tasted blind at the Southwold 2012 tasting, the 2012 Lafleur has a very well-defined bouquet that is complex and laden with blackberry, granite, cedar and veins of graphite, all with razor-like precision. The palate is medium-bodied with fine delineation and lovely poise. There are plenty of graphite-infused black fruit interwoven into this Pomerol with a cheeky dab of spiciness on the finish that needs to manifest just a little more precision in order that it attains full potential. As usual, Baptiste, Julie and Jacques Guinaudeau have conjured a serious Lafleur destined for long-term ageing."

ProducerLafleur

The Guineaudeau family tends a 4.5-hectare vineyard at Lafleur, producing limited quantities of the majestic Lafleur and Les Pensées wines. Their stewardship also includes Le Grand Village in Fronsac, the family’s original home, overseen by the same team and with the same exacting standards that define Lafleur. The unique soils—sandy-clay gravels, clay gravels, and gravelly sands—impart exceptional character to Lafleur. The family’s dedication extends to Lafleur Bouchet, propagated from plants that survived the 1956 frost, while their pursuit of perfection also led to a superior Sauvignon Blanc from Sancerre, blended from four parcels to create the outstanding white wine, Les Champs Libres.
