Giacomo Fenocchio, Piedmont, Italy
14.50%, Drinking 2023-2030, Organic Not Certified"The 2020 Barolo Villero offers up scents of pipe tobacco, spice, new leather, menthol and licorice. This is a pretty elegant, translucent style for the Villero, but one that works quite well. Despite some youthful tannin, the 2020 is already pretty open. I don't see it as a long-term ager, but it is quite attractive today."

When Claudio Fenocchio succeeded his father, Giacomo, at the helm of the family business in 1989, the debate between modernists and traditionalists in Barolo was at its height. He chose a third path, often described as radical traditionalism. His wines are renowned for being impressively approachable in their youth, while continuing to improve with age. Claudio represents the fifth generation of the Fenocchio family, crafting elegant, authentic Barolos that capture the spirit of his vineyards. Yet he does not rest on his laurels, continually pushing the boundaries of quality and innovation while honouring his family legacy.
