Winemaker Oscar Alegre is at the forefront of a revolution in Spain. "Traditional" Rioja is actually only 150 years old, driven by French influence at the end of the 19th Century - but Alegre Valgañon are among those championing a return to the much deeper roots of the region, making wine as it was before Phylloxera. Oscar and his wife Eva make gorgeous, sculpted RIoja from the cool north-west of the region, using exceptional sites with old vines - often field blends - and minimal oak influence. This winery has captured something truly special in these wines, and we are delighted to bring them to the UK market.
