Armit Tasting Note

A luscious and inviting Tokaji with lifted aromas of oranges, marmalade, apricot and honeycomb. Terrifically complex and aromatic. The palate is just as impressive with a voluptuous, silky mouthfeel and profound flavours of pithy marmalade, rich tangerine and sweet honey. Bracing acidity lift all of this luscious sweetness to make a surprisingly refreshing and irresistible dessert wine.

Producer

Situated in the heart of the Tokaj region, Château Dereszla has a history dating back to the 18th century. The Estate owns 27 hectares spread across the designated “Grand Cru” area, and the large diversity of soils throughout these vineyard holdings is a crucial factor in the complexity of their wines. The historic cellars were fully renovated in 2003 and equipped with state of the art winemaking technology. The winemaking team has a long-established expertise in vinification, as well as sharing a dedication to perfection and a passion for the beautiful wines that they produce.

Region

The noble sweet wines of Hungary from the Tokaji-Hegyalja region are renowned throughout the world and were being produced some 200 years before Sauternes. Of the 6 indigenous varieties officially approved for the production of Tokaji, 60% of all plantings are furmint vines. The grapes are left out on the vines to allow noble rot infection, then a variety of different styles of sweet wines are produced using these shrivelled grapes. Tokaji Aszú is made by the addition of the shrivelled Aszú berries into the base wine to determine the final sweetness. A royal decree in 1757 established a production district in Tokaj, and was therefore the first system of wine appellation in the world.
