Scores

The Les Forts de Latour has a very complex nose with subtle notes of raspberry preserve, blackcurrant, graphite and a very faint, almost marmalade-like scents. The palate is medium bodied with great tension and poise, the acidity slicing through the dense blackberry fruit laced with white pepper and graphite. This is a sense of ?solidity? to this Les Forts that is paradigmatic of the vintage. Excellent - although it deserves a decade in bottle. Tasted November 2012. Score: 94 Neal Martin

Tasting Notes

Wonderfully aromatic on the nose with layer upon layer of rich, dark berry fruit with complex notes of spices and minerals.   Extremely refined and elegantly restrained on the palate - deep blackberry and cassis flavours open up in the glass. The tannins are firm and textured and there is a lively, refreshing acidity which runs through to the finish. Extremely classic and pure and quite exceptional for a second wine.   Drink 2020 - 2035

ProducerChâteau Latour

Château Latour itself dates back to the 14th century but the start of its history producing wine really began with the arrival of the Ségur family who, for a time, were also owners of Lafite. Latour's vineyards are situated in the south of the Pauillac appellation, bordering St Julien and are nearer to the Gironde estuary than any other 1st Growth. The micro-climate afforded by its close proximity to the Gironde and the excellent drainage of the gravel soils, which are particularly deep here, contribute to the incredible elegance of the wines.
