Scores

"The 2020 Sauvignon Blanc Taihoa is a rich, smoky Sauvignon Blanc sourced from the cool, windy Kekerengu coast of Marlborough. Wild fermentation in old oak barrels using only the cuvée juice, followed up with lees stirring means that you find delicate yet layered textures through the wine. There are cool-climate green notes as well as black currant, citrus, flint and underlying lees-derived characters. The lively, clean finish is lengthy and intriguing."
92 points, Vinous. Rebecca Gibb MW.

Tasting Notes

"Focused aromas of guava, lime rind and papaya with light leesy nuances follow on to a powerful and concentrated flavour, with a tight mineral texture and flavours of melon, green peach and limoncello."
Armit Wines.

Food pairings: soft white cheese, chicken and tarragon pie, and smoked eel. A natural partner for seafood —particularly oysters.

ProducerAstrolabe

Named after a 19th-century explorer’s ship, Astrolabe is Simon and Jane Waghorn’s voyage into winemaking exploration in New Zealand’s Marlborough region and is now 100% family-owned. The family-owned estate is rightly celebrated for wines that express the variety of their soil and the nuances of their terroir: from the Wairau and Awatere Valleys to the Kekerengu Coast. Astrolabe wines reflect the Waghorn’s innovative treatment of specific parcels and winemaking process to capture undiscovered qualities of individual grape varieties, resulting in some of the most pure and elegant wines from the region.
