The 2018 Saffredi is a regal, elegant, supremely polished wine. It may very well be the most refined Saffredi I have ever tasted. Silky in its first impression, with striking aromatic presence and exceptional balance, the 2018 is a total knock-out. Sweet red cherry, plum, mocha, licorice and cinnamon accents develop over time, but it is the wine’s overall balance...

"The Madonna delle Grazie further ups the game. At this stage it’s showing a brooding nose with tightly wound texture, a magnified version of its peer Brunello. Layers of dark, juicy berries lifted by blood orange, wild undergrowth and its mineral character. Long and intense, it fully showcases how the 2021 combines both 2019’s succulence with 2020’s power. Mesmerizing aromas of sandalwood, lavender, sage and currants. Mint and spearmint. Lead pencil shavings. Light coffee bean too. Medium to full body with ultra-fine tannins. It goes on for minutes. 60% cabernet sauvignon, 30% merlot, and 10% petit verdot. So approachable already, but this will age beautifully. Best after 2026 and beyond. 99, James Suckling
